First Time in DC: A 3-Day Itinerary

Day 1: The Mall, at the right pace Start at the Washington Monument at 9 a.m. with timed-entry tickets booked weeks in advance, then walk east toward the Capitol with stops at the Smithsonian museums that actually interest you. Do NOT try to "do" all of them.

Day 2: Neighborhoods Take the morning in Georgetown — the waterfront, Blues Alley, a coffee at a window seat. In the afternoon, move to U Street for a late lunch and a walk through 14th Street.

Day 3: Water Spend the morning kayaking from Key Bridge Boathouse. Spend the afternoon at the Wharf. End the trip with sunset cocktails at a rooftop.
